[Accessories] Custom Haunted Mansion Wallpaper iPad Cover

Tired of generic and over-styled iPad accessories? I had a Haunted Mansion inspired one made at BeanBeanCase on Etsy from a picture I found online. Great quality and I could not be happier.

[Film] Can I Just Say Something Crazy?… (Possible Frozen Spoilers)

I don’t think I liked Frozen for the same reasons that everyone else who likes it does. First, I don’t really enjoy the Oscar winning song “Let It Go”. Instead I play “Love Is An Open Door” on repeat at least three times a week.

I think the trolls were pointless. Anna annoys me. Elsa annoys me. Honestly, Olaf and Hans made that movie fun for me. Yup. The snowman and the sneaky, manipulative youngest Prince of the Southern Isles. I don’t think Elsa’s parents teaching her to fear herself and her powers was a good message and was easily some of the worst parenting I’ve seen. And the worst part is  that  they die so there is never an acknowledgement of the error of their ways, despite the fact that they isolated their own daughter and treated her like a monster. “Conceal, don’t feel” is most likely the beginning mantra of a sociopath.

In whole, I’m not in love with it. I of course appreciate that the “act of true love” wasn’t predictable and was really thoughtful, but that wasn’t enough to make me adore this movie. Olaf getting impaled? Now that was adorable.

[Events] HIM at The Fillmore

Last night I saw HIM in concert at The Fillmore. I had never seen them before, and to say I didn’t have a certain level of expectations would be untrue. When I started listening to HIM, I was 16 years old, very angsty and totally infatuated with pretty boys. Ville Valo was of course no exception. That being said, I went to this show with the hopes of seeing a bare-chested, hip-gyrating Finnish swooner. You know, something like this:

That was not the case. Granted, it has been over 15 years since that photo was taken, so realistically I shouldn’t have held my breath. Despite Ville wearing a cardigan, a scarf, a hat that may have been borrowed by a Newsie, a Beastmilk tee and very tight skinny jeans (that he looked amazing in, I’d like to say), he did not disappoint. His vocals live are just as smooth as they are on his records. The band was flawless. The crowd was pretty mellow. All in all, a great show. I just need to remember that bands I listened to in high school are, like me, much older now.

But let’s be real, Ville Valo is still a very attractive man.

[Places] Hunted

One of the few vintage gems at Hunted
One of the few vintage gems at Hunted.

One thing I’ve never been that fashionably adventurous with are accessories. Most of my jewelry is very simple and dainty. Being more of an introvert, which may have nothing to truly do with it, I tend to stick towards classic and simple fashion, thus the need for conversation piece jewelry is minimal. However, I can’t help but appreciate great costume jewelry as they make great statement pieces that can make the most simple of outfits stand out.

Not far from where I currently reside, there is literally a small, hole in the wall shop that specializes in unique vintage costume jewelry called Hunted. The owner, Erika, hand-picks her inventory from various avenues and her assortment does not disappoint. Not strictly goth, or any fashion genre for that matter, there are great pieces for any person’s style. I wouldn’t suggest wearing the studded cuffs to work, but maybe one with an a few bangles would be a nice edge on casual Friday.

Hunted is located at 843 Divisadero St, between McAllister and Fulton in San Francisco.

[Games] Tiny Death Star

20131116-014520.jpg
Yes, Death Star! Earn those credits for sinister business!

Not since Candy Crush Saga has my face been as glued to my iPhone since I downloaded Star Wars Tiny Death Star. The object is to finance your own version of the Death Star by adding floors of commerce and residence to be filled by tiny 8bit versions of your favorite Star Wars species. So I have four Imperial levels (levels below the first floor where people are interrogated, rebel secrets are compiled and maps are created) and 12 assorted levels of apartments, retail space, restaurants and recreational activities, such as Holochess. It’s pretty much the best time waster ever. Available on iPhone and Droid.
